Police announce changes to Kentucky State Fair parking and traffic plans
It's that time of year: the Kentucky State Fair begins this week -- and there will be changes to traffic and parking this year.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It's that time of year: the Kentucky State Fair begins this week -- and there will be changes to traffic and parking this year.
Louisville Metro Police made the announcement during a Monday morning news conference, where they provided tips for drivers to avoid traffic as much as possible.
Officials say Gate 1 is used the most and Gate 6 is used the least. Gate 3 will remain closed, just like last year.
LMPD and the Kentucky State Fair are partnering with Google Maps to make your trip a little easier.
In the past, Google Maps directed people to Gate 1.
"Now when you look on there, it talks about Gates 2, 3, 4 and 6 as well," LMPD Lt. Joe Seelye said.
Officials also recommend looking up the address of a nearby business and using that to get to your desired gate.
"Look at the businesses close to those gates. We are going to get some of their addresses posted on the website," Kentucky State Fair Board Interim CEO, Steve Kelly said.
The biggest change of all this year is the location of the free parking section.
"We did make a few changes this year," Kelly said. "We are not offering the free parking down at Papa John's stadium this year. We actually moved the free parking, as he mentioned, to Pristonia, just off of Phillips Lane."
Officials say some roads around the Kentucky State Fair could close temporarily, based on congestion. You can follow LMPD and the Kentucky State Fair on social media for the most up-to-date traffic information.
