Louisville and surrounding counties switch to new emergency notification system

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A brand new notification system is rolling out Tuesday around Louisville and surrounding counties.

The new system called "LENSAlert" will replace the old "Code Red Alerts," which will expire Tuesday night.

Those who sign up online will receive information if there is an emergency in the area, but you can also provide a full personal profile in case you ever have to call 911.

"When you call 911, the profile that you enter is going to come up on their screen, so they're going to be able to pass that information on to the dispatcher and give that information to first responders, police, fire EMS ... anybody coming to the scene," said Jody Meiman, with Louisville Metro Emergency Services.

Jefferson, Bullitt, Oldham and Washington Counties are all switching over to the new system, although Bullitt won't begin using it until later this year.
