LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Students at one local elementary school received an enthusiastic welcome Wednesday morning.

The "Flash Dads" greeted students at Rangeland Elementary School this morning. The men held signs and gave high-fives as students got off the bus and walked through the doors.

"Flash Dads" are made up of fathers, teachers and community members. The initiative encourages positive role models and community involvement in schools across JCPS.

"These children need every encouragement, every opportunity they can get," said Rev. Thomas Moore, a Flash Dads participant. "I do it because I care. This is our future. We'd better look out for them right now, because the streets will take them away from us."

The group hopes to show up at schools once a month during the school year.
