Florida man accused of killing couple and biting dead man's face currently on ventilator

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The man charged with killing a Florida couple and biting the dead man's face is being closely monitored in a Florida hospital.

Police say 19-year-old Florida State University student Austin Harrouff was incoherent and making animal-like noises after the Monday night attack.

The sheriff says Harrouff tested negative for a number of drugs, but some results are still pending.

A couple in their 50's was fatally stabbed outside their home, and a neighbor was injured trying to fend off the attacker.

A classmate says Harrouff was shy in high school.

"As he shifted and met kinda different types of people, maybe he wasn't prepared to handle that type of attention," said Oliver Joseph, Harrouff's classmate. "I think freshman Austin wouldn't have done this."

A West Palm Beach TV station reports Harrouff is sedated and on a ventilator.

He had no criminal record.
