LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police now say a 14-year-old juvenile is the second suspect arrested in connection to a fatal shooting that happened near Shawnee Park.

Police say the suspect is a 14-year-old girl and that she allegedly fired the gun first. A 19-year-old woman was also arrested in the case.

According to an arrest report, Jaiara Simpson was arrested late Tuesday evening. Police say the juvenile co-defendant told them she was with Simpson when the victim was shot.

Simpson was in court Wednesday morning, where she pleaded not guilty to murder. Detectives believe Simpson, along with a juvenile, shot and killed 53-year-old Larry Pope.

Officers found Pope in the alley on South 44th Street near River Park Drive around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday after receiving a call from a neighbor.

The judge at Simpson's arraignment hearing mentioned the violent trend in Louisville in recent months saying there has been "a proliferation of murders in this town."

Simpson's bond was set at $250,000.

Police say the two suspects and Pope had not met each other prior to the incident. Detectives believe the meeting was by chance and ultimately led to a narcotics transaction.

According to police, the 14-year-old immediately cooperated with authorities during the investigation. Officials say one gun was used and that both suspects allegedly shot the weapon. Police also say the gun was not stolen.

Officials say police do not expect to arrest anyone else in the case.
