LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- JCPS is investigating after a Dunn Elementary School kindergartner was left unattended on a school bus Tuesday.
District spokesperson Allison Martin says the child was found asleep on bus #0248 at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Jacob Bus Compound on Georgetown Place.
JCPS said the child was fine and required no medical attention, but believe that he had been unattended for 45 minutes when district officials and a parent found him.
"It is the district's policy that all bus drivers must complete a walkthrough of their buses at the conclusion of each run to prevent this type of situation," Martin said. "If the protocol is not followed, a driver could be subject to termination. The safety of each of our students is our top priority, and all drivers have been reminded of the protocol."
Under district policy, the bus driver, a 12-year veteran, has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
JCPS is reviewing its on-bus security camera.
