Steve Ballard - Chief Financial Officer
Steve, a Louisville native, graduated from the University of Louisville in 1977 and began his career with the Big 8 CPA firm of Coopers & Lybrand in their Louisville office. During his time in public accounting, he obtained his license as a certified public accountant (CPA), and audited companies that included Humana and Brown-Forman. He gained international experience working at KFC in the areas of financial analysis, operations analysis and strategic planning. Following several years with KFC, Steve went to work at Churchill Downs as their Assistant Controller. Within a year he was promoted to Controller and remembers his years working at the track very fondly.
In 2005 Steve joined WDRB & WMYO as Chief Financial Officer responsible for all accounting, human resource and information technology departments. Steve has overseen the consolidation of all accounting and human resource functions for other broadcast properties within the Block Broadcast Group including WAND in Decatur, Illinois and KTRV in Boise, Idaho. He serves as CFO of those properties as well. In 2013 Steve was nominated for CFO of the Year by Business First in their medium size privately held company division.
Steve holds a Commercial Pilot’s license with Instrument and Multi-Engine ratings. When he’s not at work or working around the house, you’ll find him behind the controls of his twin engine plane. He and his college sweetheart, Theresa, were married in 1978. They have one child, Jeremy, who also worked at WDRB for over five years in Master Control.
Steve is a member of the AICPA, Kentucky Society of CPA’s and serves on the board of the DePaul School.
