As Kentucky State Fair kicks off, here are some tips to make your trip a success

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Roughly 600,000 people are expected to stop at the Kentucky State Fair while its up and running this month.

But sometimes, getting to the fair isn't so exciting.

It only took about five minutes to get there from downtown Thursday at around 11:30 a.m. Don't celebrate just yet, though.

When it gets more crowded, fair officials say to think ahead about where you want to enter.

"We encourage people to use alternate gates, use Gate 2, Gate 4 on Crittendon Drive, use Gate 6 off of Preston." said Steve Kelly, the interim CEO of the Kentucky State Fair Board. "They're usually not as busy."

Officials recommend putting the address of a nearby business into your GPS if you need help with directions.

There is a ton to do and eat at the fair this year, including the famous donut burger. Once you've had that, it's time to catch a show, see the animals or take on a ride.

"You could spend days out here in different areas of the fair and see different things each time you're here," Kelly said.
