LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A new barbershop is now open downtown. However, the age-old concept is taking on a new spin for the Louisville market.

Beards and Beers is located at 514 South 5th Street.

"I look at them and say we're going to tailor this to you, you're going to look better than that picture that you just brought in and I love achieving that form. taking them where they wanted to be and then some," Lindsay Doogs said, Creator of Beards and Beers and Master Barber.

Men's hair is practically in Doogs and Melissa Gray's genes.

"Our grandfather was a barber, our dad was a barber and my sister and I are both barbers, grew up in the barbershop watching our dad cut hair," Gray said, Owner of Beards and Beers and Master Barber.

Three generations later, the sisters are bringing the same know-how into one new setting.

"I had a great day of a haircut and a beard trim and I came outside and was like here's to beards and my husband was having a craft beer and he's like here's to beers and there we were like that's the name of the barbershop," Doogs said.

Beards and Beers was born for the customers of today.

"I actually picked the location and I felt like downtown was in need of something like this," Gray said.

"We wanted a socializing environment because that's what barbershops have always been, a socializing environment. You learn your news, you learn what's going on and we wanted that to follow into the waiting area. So, we feel like we've executed that very well. It's all I can think of, dream of and more," Doogs said.

The barbershop is partnering with local breweries to sell craft beer.

"Louisville has many great bars in Louisville. We wanted this to be something extra that our clients get to experience when they're here," Gray said.

The idea is beer and barbering in one custom designed space. The barber chairs are modeled after the 1962 Belmont GT. The wood that surrounds the shampoo bowl and the window that houses towels and steam machine came from their grandfather's place.

"My sister, myself and our dad went down and actually salvaged some of that to bring here and incorporate into our shop," Doogs said.

It's the same barbershop feel, tailored to the everyday man.

"We love people loving it as much as they did from the moment they walked through the door to the moment they leave to the moment they leave to the point they're talking about it because they can feel how much we're passionate about what we do, they take it on w them when they leave," Doogs said.

Beards and Beers is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Online booking is available. To make an appointment or for more information, click here.
