UPDATE: LMPD standoff with suspect following home invasion ends peacefully
It happened just after 3 p.m. in the Chickasaw neighborhood at the 600 block of S. 37th and West Broadway.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The standoff between a suspect and LMPD Saturday ended peacefully.
Officers responded to a report of a break-in at an apartment building on south 37th Street near West Broadway around 3:15 p.m.
According to an arrest report, Michael Broadway, 45, tried to escape from police, but ended up falling through the ceiling in an apartment complex he was barricaded in for about three hours.
Police say the standoff started after Broadway forced his way into an apartment with a gun and reportedly shot at a victim.
The report also says he may have shot at police, causing an officer to fire back.
The woman inside the apartment was able to get away safely.
The SWAT team deployed and the Broadway was taken into custody around 6:40 p.m.
"This was a successful resolution to what could have been a dangerous situation for all involved had the community not co-operated the way they did with us," Major Jimmy Harper said.
Broadway is a convicted felon and should not have had a gun.
Charges against Broadway are pending. He is being held on a $100,000 bond.
