Former LMPD officer starts discussion on the importance of Black and Blue lives

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Dr. Steven Kelsey spent 25 years in law enforcement.

He's now the pastor of Spirit Filled New Life Church Ministries.

He says the whole point of the Black and Blue Lives matter forum is to create an understanding that not all black people are criminals and not all cops are bad.

As part of the discussion, one speaker gave advice for being pulled over for a traffic stop.

"You are not to litigate your constitutional rights at the police stop because it's probably not going to go well and it's not going to end well for you. So the goal is, you don't want to escalate the situation. You can preserve your rights and take those issues up in the right form, but it's not going to be right there on the side of the road," Attorney Krsna Tibbs said.

Forum discussion also centered around creating a citizen review board for LMPD.
