LEXINGTON, KY. (WDRB) – It sounds like it’s a good thing Kentucky still has two weeks to go before the start of the season.
On Saturday, UK played its second scrimmage of the preseason. The coaches were not as pleased as they were after the first scrimmage one week before.
“We have a long way to go,” said Kentucky co-offensive coordinator Eddie Gran. “I’m glad we are not playing tomorrow.”
Gran was upset at the inconsistency from his offense but a bigger concern for UK still remains it’s depth on defense, specifically the defensive line and the linebackers.
“When you are in a scrimmage like this and you are looking at every player, it has a tendency to get a little sloppy with the twos and the threes,” said head coach Mark Stoops.
Right now the challenge for UK is developing young players fast but not to the point where they are getting overloaded with information.
“When you are trying to make them a player in a short amount of time, all they hear is negative,” said defensive coordinator D.J. Eliot. “You have to manage that. “
Kentucky wraps up preseason camp Tuesday. They’ll begin a regular practice schedule Wednesday.
