Jeffersontown Police Department and Stonybrook Kroger team up to help area students

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Jeffersontown Police Department and Stonybrook Kroger are teaming up to help students have a successful school year.

As part of  the "Stuff the Cruiser" event, items like pens, pencils, notebooks, and folders were collected Sunday for Jeffersontown Elementary and Carrithers Middle School.

But that's not all.

Kroger wants to go one step further and also collect food items for Blessings in a Backpack.

"We don't want to see any children go home on the weekend without having something to eat so this was an issue that we could address. So we put our minds together and came up with this program and so far it's been very successful so far," Phillip Kennedy said.

This was the first year for "Stuff the Cruiser" at the Stonybrook Kroger.

The goal is to make it an annual event.
