LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) --  Jefferson County Sheriffs were in pursuit of the car, when it hit a utility pole and burst into flames at 35th Street and Muhammad Ali Blvd.

Lt. Colonel Carl Yates tells WDRB that the chase began just after 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, after sheriffs pulled over the car on a traffic stop a short distance away. But the driver took off, lost control, hit the pole, escaped the car and ran away.

Police are looking for the driver. But it's not known why he sped off from the traffic stop. Police do not believe the car was stolen.
