LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Nearly 200 animals have been rescued from deplorable conditions, but it was too late for some. Now the Kentucky Humane Society is caring for 19 of the animals rescued from a puppy mill in Mississippi.

Dogs, cats, chickens, parrots, rabbits, a turkey -- even a donkey -- were saved.

The animals were extremely dirty and suffering from heavy infestations of parasites. Some were malnourished and emaciated.

The remains of several animals were also found.

The Kentucky Humane Society is caring for several dogs and cats. Some of the animals may be ready for adoption as soon as this week.
