Massive fire destroys Germantown home

LOUISVILLE, Ky (WDRB) -- Fire destroyed a home in the 800 block Ash Street early Wednesday morning and damaged two other houses.

Initially, a mother and 6-year-old child were unaccounted for after the fire, but firefighters report the two were out of town and not at home at the time of the fire. Firefighters struggled to search the home for the mother and child due to a collapsed floor.

The fire started about 12:15 a.m. it took 42 firefighters 54 minutes to get the fire under control. Extra trucks were called in to help in fighting the fire.

No firefighters were hurt.

Metro Arson is investigating, which is standard procedure. The cause of the fire is not known.
