Registered sex offender accused of molesting 5-year-old
Raymond Cain could face 250 years in prison, if convicted.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A registered sex offender could be sentenced to 250 years in prison on new charges that he molested a 5-year-old girl.
Floyd County Prosecutor Keith Henderson says the girl was abused for over a year, and the details about what happened to her are so disturbing, WDRB cannot release information from court documents. "One of the worst set of facts and circumstances I've dealt with in child molesting in all my years of doing this," said Henderson.
30-year-old Raymond Cain had nothing to say while walking into court Friday in Floyd County, Indiana. He is charged with 10 counts, including child molesting and possession of child pornography.
Investigators believe the abuse started in May of 2015 when the girl was five, and continued for over a year. They say the girl's mother found videos of her daughter on Cain's cell phone. Cain knew the mother and girl. "I believe that he stayed there at times, I'm not certain to the extent of the relationship. He had exclusive time with her, if you will, watching her, babysitting for her," Henderson explained.
WDRB has learned Cain is a registered sex offender. He served time for a conviction of child exploitation in Floyd County in 2010.
The new charges carry serious and heavy penalties. Altogether, Cain could face 250 years in prison if convicted.
Henderson was displeased with Cain's bond. He could get out of jail with $50,000 in cash. Henderson wants it higher. "We have to protect the children, if we can't protect a 5 year old or a 6 year old as a society we need to reexamine what we're doing."
Cain is due back in court September 20th.
