La Grange Police using Facebook to help with traffic enforcement

Posted: Updated:

LA GRANGE, Ky. (WDRB) – Police in La Grange are using a different kind of traffic enforcement and Facebook is playing a major role.

Last week, Police Chief Frank Conway posted on Facebook a list of streets and intersections he says are trouble spots for drivers rolling through stop signs and speeding.

“Throughout our community there are thousands of streets and intersections where people live,” said Chief Conway. “They see things that we can't be there to see.”

Conway says he only has 14 officers that can patrol the streets of La Grange and hopes by telling the public officers will periodically be patrolling those areas, people will self-enforce.

“We are a 14 man police department and this is important to us but it's also secondary to calls for service,” Conway said.

The original set of locations listed are:

  • Yager Ave.
  • Manning Place
  • Head Ave.
  • Cherrywood & Richwood
  • Woodcreek & Virginia
  • 4th Street
  • East Main Street
  • West Main Street
  • North First Street
  • Ester Way
  • Dawkins Road
  • Mahogany Run
  • Prestwick Drive
  • New Moody Lane
  • Commerce Parkway
  • Commerce Parkway & Allen Lane
  • Button & Button Court

“I think our post was shared over 300 times and there's no telling how many people saw it after that,” Conway says.

Since that post last week, more than two dozen additional tips for locations have come in from the public. Something Chief Conway hopes continue to happen.

“It's going to take all of us working together to get this problem under control,” he added.
