LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – There’s no change in the first three spots in the WDRB High School football Top 10. Everything still goes through Trinity, Male and St. Xavier.

After that?

Better follow closely and be prepared to meet new names and faces.

Waggener and Central have exited the Top 10, replaced by Brownstown (Ind.) Central as well as the return of Louisville Christian Academy. Pleasure Ridge Park made another jump, climbing from ninth in the opening rankings to seventh last week to fifth in Week Three.

Reed May has served as the head coach at Brownstown Central for 24 seasons. As usual May has one of the most formidable teams in Southern Indiana. The Braves started the season with a 42-14 win over Paoli and backed it up by rallying from a 10-point deficit in the third quarter to overtake Charlestown, 52-48, last Friday.

May, a former player at the University of Arizona, said the Braves are led by running back Gavin Bane, who has scored six touchdowns, and quarterback Kyle Kramer who has passed for a pair of scores.

In an era where more coaches have fallen in love with the spread offense, May remains an advocate of the single-wing running game. He said the Braves try to limit their passing attack to 8-to-10 times per game.

“Some people find that interesting because I played receiver at Arizona,” May said. “But I’ve always liked running a unique offense. With so many other teams running the spread, I think that makes us harder for opposing defenses to prepare for.”

Brownstown will try to move to 3-0 when Eastern (Pekin) visits Friday.
