LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Athletes who sit out immediately after a concussion recover twice as fast.

According to a new study, players who left the game immediately took an average of 22 days to recover. Those who stayed in the game recovered in about 44 days.

The study tracked 69 young athletes who visited the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center after suffering head trauma.

The athletes competed in sports like football, soccer, volleyball, field hockey and basketball.
