Experimental drug may stop the progression of Alzheimer's

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Researchers say a new experimental drug could stop the progression of Alzheimer's disease.

Patients with early-stage Alzheimer's were given the drug once a month for a year. Researchers say the drug cleared some deposits of toxic plaque from the brain.

Experts believe that plaque plays a vital role in triggering the onset of Alzheimer's.

After a year, patients on the highest dose of the drug had virtually no signs of the deposits.
