Ky. Attorney General warning public of so-called 'grandparent scams'

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) --Kentucky's Attorney General is warning Kentuckians about "grandparent scams."

The scam involves scammers calling a grandparent and pretending to be their grandchild. Scammers will say they are in some sort of trouble and need money to pay bail, legal fees, or rent.

Attorney General Beshear has a few tips if you think you might be the victim of a grandparent scam: Be cautious of unexpected phone calls asking you to quickly pay a bill. Call the grandchild at a known phone number to verify their identity. Ask the caller questions that would be difficult for anyone other than the grandchild to answer.
