LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Family members identify a young father as the man shot and killed early Monday morning at a townhome.

LMPD spokesperson Dwight Mitchell says officers were called around midnight to the 600 block of Village West Drive for a report of a shooting.

Police arrived at a townhome to find a young man had been shot.

He was taken to University Hospital where he died.

The mother of 23-year-old Derrick Bussey, Jr. tells WDRB that her son is the man killed.

She describes Bussey as a talented boxer, football player, and dancer. He also has a young daughter.

"He did anything for her. When I say he’d drop anything and run to her, he would do it. He don’t care if it’s on the Moon, he’s gonna run to her,” said Daiy’jovon Glenn, a longtime friend of Bussey. “He was doing so good, so I don’t know how this happened.”

Bussey is the 81st homicide victim in Louisville in 2016. That number surpasses the year-end total of 80 for all of 2015.

Another of the victims was Bussey’s close friend, Deionte Stokes, 21, who was shot and killed on Aug. 27 near 10th and Magazine.

"Once we get in our feelings, somebody has to pull out their gun. Nobody can fight it out anymore or just solve it, shake hands, something,” said Glenn.

No one has been charged in Bussey's death. Anyone with information is asked to call (502) 574-LMPD.
