2016 has been a rough year in the United States from a weather standpoint. In the west, we've had tremendous wildfires and from the middle of the country east, unbelievable flooding. The flooding started in April and May in Texas. Then West Virginia was hit even harder in June. Late last month, Louisiana was flooded the most of all. Hurricane Hermine struck Florida last week, causing even more flooding and destruction. In every instance, the Red Cross was there.
Let me tell you something about the Red Cross. They have a charter issued by the U.S. Government to be there in times of disaster. And the government doesn't give the Red Cross one dime of support. Did you know that? All the funds necessary must be raised through private donations.
The people who woke up one morning and saw their homes destroyed are good, hard working people like you and me who literally have been struck by disaster.
WDRB is making a $10,000 donation this week to the Red Cross and many of our employees are making their own contributions. I would encourage you to join us and make a contribution today to help our fellow Americans who, through no fault of their own, are at a real low point in their lives right now.
I promise you'll be glad you did.
