Trinity-Male remain 1-2 in WDRB High School Top 10 with matchup Friday; Ballard enters poll

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The two teams that have dominated balloting in the WDRB High School Football Top 10 poll will square off this week.

Trinity has been consistently ranked No. 1 all season on just about every ballot except that of WDRB columnist Rick Bozich. He has ranked Male No. 1. The two will get to decide it on the field on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The two remained 1-2 in balloting by WDRB sports staffers and the Max Preps website this week. But there’s a new name at No. 3 after St. Xavier fell to Bowling Green. DuPont Manual, on the strength of a 48-6 win over Seneca, has taken over the No. 3 spot.

Coach Scott Carmony’s Crimsons did it with defense in season-opening wins over Central (21-20) and Fern Creek (14-0), both ranked in the WDRB Top 10 at the time they played. Last week, they found some offense against Seneca, and they will need it next week against Ballard, which has moved into the latest WDRB poll at No. 10. The Bruins lost to Male in Week 2, but opened with an impressive win at Oldham County and beat then No. 6-ranked DeSales 25-10 last weekend.

Ballard plays host to Western this week. Manual is off.

The St. X loss to Bowling Green cost it one spot in the poll. PRP beat Doss to hang onto the No. 5 spot, followed by Central Hardin, Christian Academy and Brownstown, all of whom moved up one spot.

The Week 4 poll:

1). Trinity (3-0, six first-place votes, 69 points, No. 1 last week): The Rocks will face No. 2 Male, which beat them 20-19 in the Class 6A state semifinals last season.

2). Male (4-0, one first-place vote, 64 points, No. 2 last week): The Bulldogs have a chance to make another statement for state supremacy against Trinity.

3). Manual (3-0, 51 points, No. 4 last week): The Crimsons get a week off to prepare for a game against Ballard a week from Friday.

4). St. Xavier (1-1, 46 points, No. 3 last week): The Tigers will try to bounce back from a 31-10 loss to Bowling Green with a game against Central.

5). PRP (4-0, 44 points, No. 5 last week): The Panthers travel to Elizabethtown for a matchup with a 1-2 John Hardin. PRP has outscored its opponents 168-20 through four games.

6). Central Hardin (3-0, 30 points, No. 7 last week): The Bruins improved to 3-0 with a 50-19 win over Bullitt East. This week, they play host to South Warren (2-1).

7). Christian Academy (2-1, 26 points, No. 8 last week): The Centurions won their second straight after a season-opening loss and will look to make it three in a row at Oldham County.

8). Brownstown, Ind., Central (3-0, 17 points, No. 9 last week): The Braves topped the 50-point mark for a second straight game with a 54-8 win over Pekin Eastern. This week, they travel to Salem.

9). Ballard (2-1, 15 points, unranked last week): The Bruins jumped into the poll off an impressive 25-10 win over DeSales. This week, they play host to Western.

10). Fern Creek (2-1, 8 points, No. 10 last week): The Tigers were shut out two weeks ago by Manual, but got things going offensively in a 55-10 win over Moore last week. This week, they face Butler.
