Mexican man charged in Louisville pedestrian deaths also charged with using counterfeit documentation

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Mexican man living in Louisville has been charged by a federal grand jury for using counterfeit documents to gain employment at a local Wild Eggs restaurant.

Juan Carlos Ortega-Santos, 26, is charged in this case with two counts of using a false document for purposes of obtaining employment, one count of possession of a counterfeit alien registration card and one count of possession of a counterfeit social security card.

Juan Carlos Ortega-Santos, 26, is also the man arrested in June for driving under the influence and killing two juveniles on Taylorsville Road in Louisville.

In that case, Ortega-Santos was charged with Ortega-Santos was later charged with murder, assault, wanton endangerment, operating a motor vehicle under the influence, driving without a license, and failure to maintain insurance. 

Back in June, Wild Eggs released the following statement, saying they believed Ortega-Santos had provided all the proper documentation:

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of Tyeisha Lacy and Alena Clay as they are going through this difficult time.

We confirm that Juan Carlos Ortega-Santos was an employee of Wild Eggs and presented proper documentation as required.

Wild Eggs has and continues to follow state and federal guidelines when hiring new employees.

If convicted, Ortega-Santos faces potential penalties of no more than 10 years in prison for the first two counts and no more than five years in prison for the last two counts.
