Inmate found dead in cell at Washington County Jail in Salem, Ind.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An inmate was found dead inside his cell at the Washington County Jail in Salem, Indiana, Monday evening.

According to Sgt. Jerry Goodin of the Indiana State Police, the body of 40-year-old Travis W. Doan was found in his cell. He was discovered by the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

Indiana State Police are handling the case as a death investigation.

According to Goodin, the preliminary results of an autopsy that was conducted on Tuesday indicate death by hanging by ligature. 

The results of a toxicology report are pending.

Doan was a resident of Hardinsburg, Indiana.
