LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Jeffersontown High School students are taking part in a solar car challenge.

Today, members of the University of Kentucky showed off their solar car to help kickoff the program. All Jeffersontown sophomores, juniors and seniors will participate in the program.

The students will create prints for the go-karts, install solar panels and build the karts from the ground up. In April, the students will race their go-karts at a special celebration.

Students say it was great getting a chance to learn from their UK counterparts.

"I really liked it, and I liked some of their ideas," said Matt Schardein a senior at J'town High School. "Some of it I didn't understand -- well why they made the choices they did -- but I'm sure it all comes with experience.

The school is partnering with Ford Next Generation Learning and the Ford Louisville Assembly Plant for the program.
