LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Organizers call it the country's fastest growing water sport.

It's all about fun, fitness, charity and interesting boat designs.

The Louisville Dragon Boat Festival kicked off Saturday morning at Waterfront Park.

This was the third year for the event.

Twenty-eight teams from five states raced in their dragon boats, compared to 18 the first year.

Some teams raise money for charity, while others just enjoy the competition.

"We have been preparing for three years. We have been preparing for three weeks. Hopefully we can have a fun, big fun, and everyone can have a good experience about this," racer Huey Kien said.

It's believed that dragon boat racing began more than 2,300 years ago in China.
