UPDATE: Coroner identifies 3-year-old boy who accidentally shot himself in Algonquin neighborhood

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Officials have released the name of the 3-year-old boy who died Monday after he accidentally shot himself.

The child has been identified as Anthony Blake Wells, according to Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Rita Taylor. Authorities say the child died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Police say the shooting happened in the Algonquin neighborhood.

LMPD responded to a report of a shooting in the 1600 block of Brashear Drive. Officials say the call came in at 10:43 p.m. Sunday as a report of a toddler with an apparent gunshot wound.

Wells was transported to Kosair Children's Hospital.

Police say other people were inside the home at the time of the shooting. No one else was injured.

LMPD's Major Crimes unit is handling the investigation to determine the cause of the shooting.

In August, a four-year-old girl living in the same apartment complex on Brashear Drive shot herself with a stolen gun. Both her parents claimed the gun didn't belong to them. The young girl survived the shooting.
