LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man charged with murder after authorities say he caused a fatal DUI crash entered a plea of not guilty in court on Monday.

William McGaughy, 60, was arrested Sept. 7 at U of L Hospital, according to court records. Police say the crash also happened on Sept. 7 just after 5 a.m., on West Chestnut Street.

An official police report says McGaughy had been driving a car while under the influence of alcohol.

Police state that toxicology records show that McGaughy had a blood level of .217. Authorities say McGaughy had been traveling south on 27th Street and "failed to stop at the stop sign at Chestnut."

Police say McGaughy allegedly pulled into the path of a vehicle that was traveling east and hit it on the right side. The police report states that a passenger in McGaughy's vehicle, identified as Regetta Board, died as a result of the crash. The driver of the other vehicle also suffered injuries, according to police.

Investigators say McGaughy had no proof of insurance and a previous DUI conviction from 2015.

Authorities say McGaughy "had a strong odor of alcoholic beverages coming from his breath" and bloodshot and glossy eyes.

McGaughy is also charged with DUI, assault, failure to maintain insurance and criminal mischief.
