LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino’s holiday season looks to be filled with work, from the 2016-17 men’s basketball schedule released by the school on Monday.

The Cardinals face the University of Kentucky at home on Dec. 21 at 7 p.m., then open Atlantic Coast Conference play with a home game against Virginia on Dec. 28, before facing Indiana in Bankers Life Arena in Indianapolis on New Year’s Eve at 12:30 p.m. They start the new year in South Bend, Ind., against Notre Dame at 9 p.m. on Jan. 4.

“The ACC, the Battle 4 Atlantis, Purdue and at Grand Canyon -- pass the Pepto Bismol,” Pitino said of the schedule in a statement released by U of L. “Our saving grace is the attitude and work ethic of this team. We may be unproven and a bit inexperienced, but this group is talented and tenacious. It should be a fun season.”

The Cardinals will play eight of their first 12 games at home, if you count exhibitions. The Battle 4 Atlantis in Paradise Island, Bahamas, will feature an opening game against Old Dominion. Other teams in the field are LSU, Wichita State, Baylor, VCU, Michigan State and St. John’s.

The Cards play host to Purdue in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge on Nov. 30, and visit Grand Canyon University in Phoenix on Dec. 3. The Billy Minardi Classic will feature Eastern Kentucky on Dec. 17.

“Our schedule as planned is one of the toughest any team could encounter,” Pitino said. “Then the league travel is a bit unfair with a 9 p.m. home game on a Thursday, followed by a 2 p.m. game at Florida State that Saturday. There’s also a road game on Saturday afternoon at Boston College, followed by traveling to Virginia on a Monday.”

At least 14 games will be nationally televised, with 19 games at home. View the full schedule below.

The team will hold a pair of Red-White scrimmages in the KFC Yum Center. Dates are Wednesday, Oct. 12 and Friday, Oct. 21. Both start at 7 p.m.

Tickets, priced at $10 each, will go on sale beginning at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at the U of L ticket office near Gate 2 of Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium. They may also be purchased through TicketMaster. A limited number of scrimmage tickets are available to students at no charge, and may be obtained (two per student) at the U of L ticket office with a valid student ID.
