Former N. Vernon police officer charged with stealing evidence, faking medical records

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A former police officer from North Vernon, Indiana is accused of stealing evidence while on the force.

According to a news release from Indiana State Police, 43-year-old Brandy Blevins was arrested for alleged official misconduct while she was a North Vernon police officer.

She resigned from the force in North Vernon in February of 2016, around the same time state police began its investigation.

It was the north Vernon Police Department that actually requested the investigation by state police. According to detectives, during a normal audit of its evidence room police found certain things were missing.

Over the course of the next few months, state police investigated Blevins and eventually decided to bring charges against Blevins.

Indiana State Police investigators also believe that she faked medical records during an internal investigation in December of 2015. During this time, she was a detective with the department.

She was first hired as an officer in North Vernon in 1998.

Blevins is charged with one count each of official misconduct and forgery, both felonies. She is also charged with one count of misdemeanor theft. Blevins was taken into custody Monday afternoon without incident.
