LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Farnsley Middle School was briefly placed under heightened security on Tuesday afternoon following a student report that a gun was in another student's locker.

Jennifer Brislin, a spokeswoman for Jefferson County Public Schools, said the incident happened around noon.

"One student told a staff member that another student had a gun in their locker," Brislin said. "Officials searched the student and the locker and found nothing. Out of abundance of caution, we raised the security level and did a search of the school with a police K9 unit and we found nothing."

Brislin said the student later admitted to making the story up. School operations returned to normal at about 12:50. It was not immediately clear if the student will face discipline for allegedly making the story up.

A letter will be sent home to parents on Tuesday afternoon, Brislin said.
