LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- We have learned the identity of a woman who was shot and killed near NuLu on Monday night.

The victim was 19-year old Mariah Wilson.

Detectives returned to the Liberty Green Apartments on Tuesday morning to look for evidence.

Shekinah Armstrong lives in the apartment complex and said she heard her neighbor screaming around the time of the shooting.

"It just sounded like furniture moving, so it didn't really alarm me, and then I heard what sounded like firecrackers and still, nothing, and then when I heard my neighbors, I knew something was wrong," Armstrong said.

She said her neighbor was on the balcony, and she was pointing to the ground below.

"She just kept saying, 'oh God, oh God, oh God.' That's all she could muster."

The neighbor was looking at Wilson, who was outside on the ground after being shot to death.

"It's absolutely heartbreaking ... and it's just broad daylight," Armstrong said.

Wilson's identity was released on Tuesday afternoon, however, word of her death was already out, and her Facebook page has been flooded with messages from people who knew and loved her.

"I saw her yesterday morning, early in the morning," said Natwiya Yearby, Wilson's friend.

Yearby returned to the scene on Tuesday still in disbelief.

"I need to know where she was," she said. "Was it really her? Like, I still don't believe it."

Yearby and some other friends brought balloons and candles to the scene.

"She's really gone because of a selfish person."

Right now, police aren't saying what led to the shooting, but Wilson's friends and the people who witnessed her death want to know what happened.

"We're not going to sleep until we get answers," Yearby said.
