LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police say a Sycamore, Illinois, man was arrested Tuesday after he made a blatant admission while a police officer was standing just inches behind him.

According to an arrest report, it happened just before 1 p.m. near the intersection of S. Preston Street and Jefferson Street.

Police say they had already arrested 30-year-old Rue Shanyfelt less than 24 hours earlier for public intoxication, when they saw him sitting near the intersection.

According to the arrest report, Shanyfelt, "is known to abuse spice, and associates with others who do the same." Police say he was sitting in an area "known for frequent loitering and drug use."

While he was sitting there, police say an officer approached him from behind "discreetly," without Shanyfelt knowing the officer was there. According to the arrest report, the officer was "within inches away from" Shanyfelt, when the officer saw him holding a partially smoked spice joint in his right hand.

Police say that while the officer was looking at the joint "in plain sight," and Shanyfelt "still unaware" of the officer standing directly behind him, Shanyfelt yelled to an acquaintance who was walking by.

According to the arrest report, he yelled, "Hey, I got this blunt, man."

Police say that at this point, the officer standing behind Shanyfelt, "made presence known" to him, and placed him in handcuffs. At this point, Shanyfelt allegedly dropped the rolled blunt on the ground in an attempt to "discard" it.

Shanyfelt was arrested and charged with tampering with physical evidence and possession of synthetic drugs.
