Churchill Downs' Twin Spires to be lit red in support of U of L Cardinals
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Twin Spires at Churchill Downs will be lit red for the next few days in support of the Louisville Cardinals as U of L prepares for Saturday's matchup against Florida State.
According to a news release from the racetrack, the spires will be cast in a red glow Wednesday, Thursday and Friday night.
Saturday's game begins at noon and will take place at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.
"Churchill Downs opens its 11-day September Meet on Friday at 12:45 p.m. with a 10-race program that could draw plenty of out-of-town visitors," the news release states. "With the big game in mind, track officials proactively moved back Saturday's post time from 12:45 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., so fans could enjoy the best of both worlds and to help ease area traffic, especially on Central Avenue."
Those who attend the U of L / Florida State game are invited to visit Churchill Downs afterward, free of charge, on Saturday by showing their ticket stub. Eleven races, including four stakes events, are scheduled Saturday and the last race is set for 7:29 p.m.
