LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The official dog days of summer are coming to an end, but not before the dogs get their day at the pool.

The Jewish Community Center invited dogs and their owners to a pool party Sunday, before the center's pool closes for the season.

Each year it's drained halfway for the "Doggie Dip." Some played fetch with tennis balls and frisbees, while the beginner swimmers stuck to the kiddie pool.

Both dogs and owners say it's a blast every year.

"It's a great event with a good fundraiser and she likes to get out and play with other dogs, so any opportunity we can do that, we like to do it," said Casey Leek, a dog owner.

The Doggie Dip was open to the public. Officials say around 250 dogs came to swim today.

The event raises money for the JCC and animal rescue shelters.
