LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Shively Police say a man is in custody after he left his own address and telephone number on an abandoned vehicle that had been stolen from a local rental car agency.

According to an arrest report, police were called to the 3400 block of Peleske Drive, near Farnsley Road and I-264, Tuesday evening, after someone reported that a vehicle had been abandoned there.

When officers arrived, they found a blue Ford Explorer parked on the easement at the intersection of Peleske Drive and Mary Catherine Drive.

Police say their investigation determined that the Ford Explorer had been stolen from Hertz Rental Cars. Police also say that the license tag on the vehicle was actually assigned to a 2008 Chevy Trailblazer.

According to the arrest report, a note had been left on the dashboard of the vehicle, indicating that the car had mechanical issues and asking that it not be towed. The note contained contact information, including a phone number and home address.

Police say they called the number and spoke with 40-year-old Robert Garth, who returned to the vehicle and allegedly told officers that it belonged to someone else, before telling police that he himself had purchased it.

Officers found Garth's resume inside the Explorer, according to the arrest report.

Garth was taken into custody and charged with receipt of stolen property, obscuring the identity of a machine and failure to notify the Department of Transportation of an address change.
