COLUMBUS, Ind. (WDRB) -- An Indiana State Trooper was struck by a vehicle Saturday morning while directing traffic for the Mill Race Marathon in Columbus.

Officials say First Sgt. Perry Hewitt, a 36-year veteran of ISP, was struck by Sherry Waggoner, 64, as she was traveling eastbound on State Street, attempting to turn northbound onto Mapleton Street.

Hewitt was directing traffic in the intersection when the incident occurred, and was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital for treatment of minor injuries where he was later released.

According to a release from ISP, investigation determined that Waggoner's view may have been affected by the position of the sun.
