UPDATE: Authorities identify WKU student killed in crash
The accident happened around 3 p.m. on Western Kentucky Parkway, at the 106 mile marker, near Leitchfield.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Authorities have identified a Western Kentucky University student who was killed in a car accident over the weekend.
That student, who was from Louisville, was 21-year-old Stephanie N. Campbell.
The accident happened around 3 p.m. on Western Kentucky Parkway, at the 106 mile marker, near Leitchfield. According to the Grayson County Sheriff's Office, a 2001 gold Nissan was traveling westbound, when for unknown reasons, it entered the grass median. It then came back onto the westbound side of the roadway, over-corrected, re-entered the median and crossed into the eastbound lanes of Western Kentucky Parkway. The vehicle rolled over multiple times, before coming to rest on the passenger side.
Campbell, who was the driver, was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators says she was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash.
Campbell's parents tell WDRB that both Campbell and her brother -- who is in the military -- were home over the weekend. Her brother flew out yesterday, and she was driving back to school when the accident happened.
Her parents say she was a double-major in English and Political Science and was supposed to graduate in May.
She is a graduate of Assumption High School.
