LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Signature Healthcare will lay off more than 200 workers as it closes two east end nursing homes by the end of November.

However, those workers could transfer to other Signature facilities in the Louisville area.

Residents will need to find other places for their care.

The company sent legal notices Tuesday outlining plans to close Glenview Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center at 6000 Hunting Road in Northfield; and Meadowview Rehab and Wellness Center at 9701 Whipps Mill Road in Louisville, on Nov. 27, the Sunday after Thanksgiving.

The notices say the closings are "expected to be permanent."

The company expects to lay off 83 workers at Glenview and 124 at Meadowview, the notices say.

Signature is "working diligently to determine" if the workers can transfer to other company facilities, according to the notices, which are dated Sept. 27.

Spokesperson Diane Timmering said the company would like to pair workers with specific residents who also could move to other Signature facilities in the Louisville area.

"Our workforce is precious to us, just as our residents are," Timmering said.

Federal law requires companies with 100 or more employees to provide 60 days' notice of mass layoffs and plant closings. In Kentucky, those notices go to the states' education and workforce development cabinet.

Signature's website says it operates 143 facilities nationwide, including 46 in Kentucky.
