LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Danville, Kentucky man is facing a felony charge after police say he beat a child for taking toppings off a pizza.

According to an arrest report, it happened on Monday, Sept. 12, in Boyle County, Kentucky. Kentucky State Police say 34-year-old Nicholas McCoy abused a 9-year-old boy and "subjected him to cruel punishment" by hitting him repeatedly in the legs with a belt, causing bruising. He also allegedly "used physical force" to hit the child in the face, causing bruising.

The boy's mother allegedly told police that the reason McCoy did it was because he was upset that the boy was removing toppings from a pizza and wasn't eating the pizza fast enough.

A warrant was issued for McCoy's arrest on Thursday, Sept. 15, and he was taken into custody on Tuesday, Sept. 28.

He is currently charged with first degree criminal abuse of a child under the age of 12.

McCoy is being held in the Boyle County Detention Center.
