Charlotte N.C. child makes emotional plea to city council members

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The leaders of Charlotte, North Carolina received a desperate plea from one of their youngest citizens earlier this week.

Nine-year-old Zianna Oliphant gave an emotional speech at a city council meeting on Monday. She says that when she heard about the shooting death of Keith Lamont Scott, she couldn't be silent.

While adults shouted across the room, it was her tearful speech that made everyone stop and listen

"We shouldn't have to protest because you all are treating us wrong," she said. "We do this because we need to and have rights."

Oliphant says it is important for council members to see how children are being affected by police shootings.
