LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer announced Wednesday that he will hire 28 additional police officers.

According to a release sent out Wednesday afternoon, the new officers will bring the total number of recruits to 150, which will be the largest class ever for LMPD.

Mayor Fischer will make a recommendation for full funding of about $2.8 million for the additional officers as part of his FY18 budget.

The new police officers will be added to recruit classes between now and the end of the fiscal year, which concludes on June 30, 2017.
