KY 22 culvert replacement in Jefferson County delayed until Oct. 10

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet advises motorists that KY 22 in eastern Jefferson County will not close next week for culvert replacement over Little Goose Creek as originally planned.

According to a news release, a delay in delivery of the precast concrete structures is causing the road closure to be delayed by at least a week. Work is now scheduled to begin the week of Oct. 10.

“Instead of closing the road next week, removing the old culvert and waiting a few weeks on the culvert components to arrive, we will be keeping KY 22 open a little longer,” stated Matt Bullock, Chief District Engineer for the Department of Highways District 5 Office in Louisville.  “In order to minimize impacts on motorists, our contract stipulates that the road closure cannot start until two weeks prior to the culvert delivery date.”

A 3-ton weight limit was posted on KY 22 at Little Goose Creek near Ten Broeck Way in August 2016. This posting was put in place to restrict all commercial traffic off the culvert. It also has helped prevent further deterioration of the culvert so KY 22 could remain open to passenger vehicles until a replacement project begins. This section of roadway carries an average of 12,000 vehicles per day.

The roadway will be closed to through traffic between Goose Creek Road and Hurstbourne Parkway (mile points 2.7 to 3.6). Local traffic will still have access to the residences on either side of Little Goose Creek. Motorists will be detoured around the project area via Goose Creek Road, Westport Road and Hurstbourne Parkway.

Construction is scheduled for completion by Dec. 1, 2016.
