The new body shop at the Ford Kentucky Truck Plant is where the military-grade aluminum alloy body is assembled for the toughest Ford truck ever: the new Ford Super Duty.

“I grew up with Ford, and the blue oval has just been a part of my life and my family ever since,” said Nate Berges, a Ford customer.

This new truck is so popular, Berges came all the way from New Jersey to Kentucky to buy his Super Duty.

“I have no doubt with this truck. All the research Ford puts into this vehicle is phenomenal,” he said.

The body of the truck is so different from the rest of its kind, the Ford Kentucky Truck Plant created a new body shop for production.

“Just to be able to build the aluminum ... it's quite different than being able to build the other types of units there,” said Cheryl Collins, manager of the Kentucky Truck Plant.

“This is so important for the community and the economy in many ways,” Representative John Yarmuth said. “ One, it obviously represents a lot of jobs and a lot of tax revenue to the community, but it also is symbolic of the innovation that Ford has done. It’s centered here in Louisville.”

The new body shop created 2,000 more jobs in Louisville.

“I drive up and down Chamberlain Lane all the time, and to see over the last few years how the cars in the parking lot are getting closer and closer to Chamberlain Lane just visibly indicates the increasing jobs and good wages in this community,” Rep. Yarmuth said.

The Ford Kentucky Truck Plant is continuing to grow production. The 2018 aluminum alloy body Ford Expedition will also be made at the plant.

Production in the new body shop started over the summer.
