The New York Times releases Donald Trump tax documents

Posted: Updated:

NEW YORK (WDRB) -- Donald Trump's taxes are back in the spotlight, as the New York Times releases some of his tax documents from 1995.

The documents show that the presidential candidate reported a $916 million loss that year.

Tax experts say that means Trump could have used his loss to legally avoid paying federal income taxes for up to 18 years.

The Trump campaign released a statement saying the GOP nominee has paid hundreds of millions of dollars in other taxes.

"So Trump goes around and says 'I'm worth billions. I'm a successful businessman but I don't pay any taxes. But you, you make 15 bucks an hour, you pay the taxes not me.' That is why people are angry and want real change in this country," said former presidential candidate, Bernie Sanders.

Trump has yet to release any current tax returns.

Hillary Clinton released hers in August.
