Louisville church and PACT in Action hold discussion on reducing violence by engaging in family activities

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Reducing violence in Louisville by eating together as a family.

That was one topic of a dinner discussion Sunday at Southern Star Baptist Church.

Along with the organization PACT in Action, the discussion focused on how eating and engaging in healthy activities as a family could impact community violence.

"If they see the persons that are the leaders of their households, the people on the street corners that they look up to, then they're just gonna see this as a normal way of doing things," Pastor Barry Johnson said.  "It's gonna take all of us to come together and have a joint spearheaded effort to make this thing stop."

PACT in Action is a teen dating violence prevention program that focuses on the Parkhill, Algonquin and California neighborhoods.

The goal is to reduce teen dating violence in Louisville by at least 10 percent by 2020.
