Police say Louisville man tried to kill mother of his unborn child
Authorities say the suspect choked the victim to the point where "she could not breathe and was gasping for air."
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police have arrested a man charged with attempted murder.
Domonique Hughley, 30, was arrested Monday at his home in the 7300 block of Six Mile Lane, near Breckenridge Lane.
The official police report says Hughley became involved in an argument with the victim. Police say the victim is 6-1/2 months pregnant with Hughley's child.
According to police, Hughley then began to physically assault the victim by placing both his hands around the victim's neck and choking her.
Investigators say Hughley then placed the victim's arms above her head and began pulling her backwards.
Officials say the victim tried calling police, but Hughley saw the victim's call for help and snatched her phone away. Police say Hughley said to the victim, "I'll just kill you. You gonna die."
Authorities say Hughley choked the victim again to the point where "she could not breathe and was gasping for air."
Police say that as a result of being choked, the victim "had head and stomach pain, could not hear, began vomiting, and felt like she was choking on a knot in her throat."
Officials say as the victim tried to escape, Hughley told her "You better not touch that door. You better not leave."
The police report states that the victim asked to go to the hospital or call for help. According to police, Hughley said in response, "I don't care if you die or not. You gonna die."
Police say Hughley choked the victim a third time. Police also say the victim said she could not see, and that "she saw a light like she was going to die."
The police report says "the victim felt dizzy and urinated on herself involuntarily."
When a 911 dispatcher called the victim's phone back, police say Hughley balled his fists and stated, "If you say anything to the people on that phone, I'm going to kill you."
Authorities say the victim tried to open the door to get away, but Hughley slammed the door and would not allow her to leave. Police say Hughley eventually took the victim to the hospital.
Police say the victim suffered pain to her hips, feet, tailbone, neck, throat and head. Police also say the victim had a raspy voice, was coughing and had difficulty swallowing. She also had scratches to her neck and bruising, according to police. Investigators say she had petechiae to the left eye.
Hughley is also charged with assault, unlawful imprisonment, wanton endangerment and intimidating a participant in the legal process. He is being held at Louisville Metro Corrections on a $10,000 cash bond.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
